All about Japan: Clothing

In Japan you can find two types of dress: traditional and modern.

In the traditional dress highlights the kimono, a long garment worn by striking women, men and children on special occasions. Other garments worn by the Japanese are the yukata, a light summer kimono, hakama, a ceremonial garment, the Jinbei, slight male garment used as pajamas and junihitoe, a female garment similar to a kimono and used by the nobles.

Among traditional straps and belts are the obi, which is used with the kimono, yukata and hakama. In terms of traditional footwear are: the Jika-tabi and tabi, which are the traditional means, the zori, which are used as sandals, the geta, a type of clog, and the waraji, a sandal worn by Buddhist monks.

With regard to modern Japanese clothing, there are some trends like ganguro, which is characterized by a female fashion designer clothing, having tanned skin and embrace the excessive use of accessories. Another trend in Japan's modern Lolita fashion, which is inspired by Victorian children's fashion with elements of Rococo and has had leads of subcultures gothic, punk, meido, etc. Interestingly, the Japanese school uniform has been taken as a special variant of youth apparel, which is well reflected in the Japanese media.

Another form of modern fashion that started in Japan is the cosplay, which consists of dressing up a character that appears in some Japanese media: anime, manga, video games, music videos, etc.
